Regeneration in Powys

Powys Arts Forum is a full member of the Powys Regeneration Partnership, which is the only partnership covering Powys alone that has an overriding economic and regeneration focus. The Powys Regeneration Partnership is also the Thematic Partnership for the economic theme of the One Powys Plan.

The Partnership is composed in equal parts of Public, Private and Third Sector members. During 2010-11 it was chaired by Philip Freeman, Powys Arts Forum's representative.

The Powys Regeneration Partnership now has the central role in the management and delivery of the Axis 3 & 4 elements of the Rural Development Plan in the county: more details

The Forum also attends meetings of Powys County Council's Regeneration Programme Board.

Policies

Powys Arts Forum has adopted the following policies in order to carry out its work

The Forum is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity. A full copy of the Memorandum and Articles of Association are available on request.

A Short History

In the Beginning

Powys Arts Forum came into being in 2003 and held its first Arts Month in 2004. The first few years were occupied with developing ideas and making explorations into what would be the most appropriate shape and extent of the Forum's activities.

Arts Month 2007

The next major project for the Forum was the Ingredient X Arts Month in the autumn of 2007. This involved over a 100 artists in 56 separate events throughout the county.

Testing the Soil

Much of the Forum's early work was supported by European Funds through PAVO and the most recent project was the Testing the Soil toolkit developed for use in conjunction with Harvesting the Arts

Harvesting the Arts

In the autumn of 2008 three Artists seminars were held with support from Powys County Council and the Arts Council of Wales. They were under the general title of Harvesting the Arts and consisted of

  • Art and the Public (Maesmawr, Caersws)
  • Create, Communicate, Conserve (Y Tabernacl, Machynlleth)
  • Reclaiming the Rural (Penpont, Brecon)
