Ingredient X

What's That?
Here's how to find out

Powys is a land of rich diversity, stretching from the uplands of the Brecon Beacons in the south, to the valleys, hillsides and lakes of the north - from the ancient capital of Machynlleth in the west, to the market towns in the east. And Powys is a county of artists. Painters, printers, potters, sculptors, poets and playmakers, film-makers, music-makers, craftsmakers, working in both traditional and new media. And for four weeks in the summer of 2007, many of these artists will be sharing their work with audiences and visitors, through the extra dimension of Powys Arts Month - Ingredient X.

There will be events and opportunities, not just to view as audience or gallery-visitor, but to meet the makers. Artists in many media will open their studios, for you to enjoy their work, and talk to them about what they have created, why, and how. Musicians, film-makers and theatre directors will invite you to enjoy performance and dialogue with them about how their ideas and approaches. You can share a day with a poet, exploring ideas and inspiration. And Powys Arts Month also embraces our links with other cultures, through a celebration of Polish cultural links, an exhibition of the works of the Australian artist Sidney Nolan, and an Indian summer at Powis Castle.
There will be plenty of opportunities for families to take part in events, enjoying the glories of the Powys countryside, with the Ingredient X of an arts encounter adding to the experience. The events, gallery and studio openings, start in mid-August and end in mid-September. This is your chance to explore all the exciting events in Powys which have this special Ingredient X. Enjoy Powys and the arts in Powys! You may take home some special piece of art or craft - or just happy memories of what Ingredient X was all about.
