TESTING
THE SOIL
Thanks to funds from the Spirit Plus programme developed by PAVO, through EU funds, we will be
adding another dimension to the Harvesting the Arts events (see next column).
The Project Manager who delivered INGREDIENT X so successfully for us, Kate Bull, will work with the project leaders to identify ways of
maximising the economic impact of arts projects on local communities.
This will eventually result in a useful document which can be used to identify opportunities at the planning stage of future events.
CULTURE COLONY
The Pixel Foundry are launching an ambitious new project. Called Culture Colony it aims to create a virtual community
dedicated to the culture of Wales and Welsh people around the world.
"It’s a new cultural networking experience that will be developed by
its pioneering membership. So be one of the first, take a look and if you have any
ideas about its direction and evolution then please let us know. Because when
Culture Colony – Y Wladfa Newydd launches, we want it to work for you."Pete Telfer

Harvesting the Arts
Thanks to funding from the Arts Council of Wales and support from Powys County Council’s Arts Development Team,
we are launching an innovative and exciting project called HARVESTING THE ARTS.
Building on feedback from participants of last autumn’s INGREDIENT X (Powys Arts Month), which showed how the event
could be strengthened by more co-ordination between artists, and in anticipation of an Arts Month 2009, we will be facilitating three
one-day HARVESTING THE ARTS events (one in each Powys Shire) to bring together groups of artists and demonstrate cluster working.
These events will take place during the summer/autumn of 2008.
We are looking to identify an artist to co-ordinate and host each event in collaboration with PCC Arts Development Officer,
Lucy Bevan. A fee is payable and there is a budget for expenses. Some administrative support will also be provided.
Outline plans for the day anticipate a presentation of work by the organising artist
and and/or others, a Q&A session with a panel of artists and people involved in the arts, opportunities for networking and discussion,
possibly a performance, exhibition or live event and a feast! However this is a format which should have
ample flexibility for a creative interpretation of each element within it. It is intended that the emphasis should be on
encouraging collaborative and cross art-form working and we hope that many members of the local community can be drawn in to participate.
Deadline for Expressions of Interest June 1st 2008
Each of the three HARVESTING THE ARTS events aim to provide us with successful models of high quality
creative joint working reaping maximum benefit for participants and the local community!
If you would like more information or would like to tender for the delivery of an event please contact Lucy Bevan, Arts Development Officer on 01597 827564 or email her at lucindab@powys.gov.uk
All we will need from you is a brief description of your good idea (1 side of A4)!

the Arts Forum: Are YOU a Member?
Projects like the hugely successful Arts Month (see below) and many other opportunities
are only possible if the Forum continues to be a be
a credible voice for the arts in Powys. This means we need YOU to become a member.
This is a chance to make contact with others who care about the arts, and to work together to raise the
profile of what we do, encouraging others to share in it.
Pictured below is the work of John Morgan who has recently become a Forum member, and whose work livens up the streets of Hay as in this
imaginative piece.
